5 trailers from my chosen genre
5 trailers from my chosen genre:
Im going through these 5 trailers and going to analyse the trailers through genre. some of the things ill be looking for in genre is: Intended affect, sounds, mise-en-scene, editing and text.
The Quake:
Independence day 2:
Geostorm:
Pacific Rim: Uprising
2012:
Across these 5 trailers trailers there's been a few similar themes. one of these themes are the ways in which the disaster is being shown through the trailers, they also show this through the editing, the style of editing used is slow to start off with so they are able to set a scene and show land marks and areas people may recognise so they can show significanse. another theme commonly used is big bold lettering all of which have a metallic look to them and some patches of high intensity lighting on them. The third common theme commonly used is the high intensity music and large impact sounds to make the anticipation grow as the clip goes on. The fourth common theme is to do with the Mise-En-Scene, they type of costumes people are usually wearing are plain normal clothes to make it seem like its happening to everyone and the more important characters are wearing specific clothes that are all to do with the same theme.
Im going through these 5 trailers and going to analyse the trailers through genre. some of the things ill be looking for in genre is: Intended affect, sounds, mise-en-scene, editing and text.
The Quake:
- Theres high impact sounds to put the audience on edgy and make them uneasy on whats about to happen.
- It has large bold writing to catch the audiences attention, it also is in the colour of concrete which makes us associate this with a urban environment.
- The style of clothes is very basic and ordinary which makes us see them as normal peoeple
- The editing speeds up as the intense music speeds up as well.
- The text starts to crack as the buildings begin to fall
- tries to create fear and panic for the audience
- high impact scenes are shown to create more mystery and excitement
Independence day 2:
- The font of writing is very futuristic, it also has a bright light behind it which symbolises the sun rising over the earth which makes us think about space.
- Slow music to create anticipation and suspense.
- The setting is very futuristic as they have futuristic vehicles.
- high impact sounds when disaster strikes to create fear.
- you can tell its from the SCIFI genre as it has lasers and UFO which are all characteristics of the SCIFI genre.
- along with the futuristic lighting the used a blue and black theme which is another characteristic of the scifi genre, they also used smoke at the end from behind the font as well.
Geostorm:
- Starts off showing everyone in suits which shows us that it us very important.
- Theres a timer counting down which creates suspense and panic.
- the setting was in the present day and in large cities which makes it relatable to us, also the costumes people were wearing was again very causal and present which makes it seem relevant to us, but the important main people are dressed in suits which helps us see their significance.
- The fonts used are suited for the nature disaster genre as the text is bright and looks icy, it also has a light coming down which makes it look like the sun coming down.
- high impact sounds along with fast and slow editing technics makes it have high intensity and suspense.
Pacific Rim: Uprising
- They use high impact bleeping sounds along with a scifi high pitch backing sound.
- Futuristic setting making us think its set in the future.
- high intensity situation.
- back story to tell us how everything happened
- The font they used was a bright yellow which is very eye catching and makes it seem futuristic as it was an intense vibrant colour, it also had a mechanical look to it.
- they used a mix of fast and slow editing to ether create action or to create tension.
2012:
- Scary Sounding music
- they use a lot of screaming, this is because they are creating panic and creating the atmosphere for the audience to make they scared as well.
- showing disaster that has stricken land markets and easily known location to show the scale of what is happening.
- motivation high energy music is used as they main characters are trying to escape, this helps the audience build a connection with the characters.
- They use a large metallic font through out, this is because it related to the scenes it set in as they are all based in large cities.
